Uninstall Roomy

Remove Roomy and everything it stores from your Mac.

You can remove Roomy completely in a few minutes. Roomy doesn't install background helpers, login items, launch agents, kernel or system extensions, or browser extensions, so there's nothing running in the background to stop. Follow the steps below to remove the app and every file it stores.

Step 1: Deactivate your license (Pro users)

This frees up one of your 3 device slots so you can use your license on another Mac.

  1. Open Roomy and choose Roomy → Settings… (⌘ ,).
  2. Click the License tab, then Deactivate This Mac.

Already deleted the app? Sign in to your account page and deactivate this Mac there.

Uninstalling doesn't cancel a subscription. To stop future payments, open the Billing tab of your account page, click Open billing portal and cancel. See Billing and subscriptions.

Step 2: Quit Roomy

Choose Roomy → Quit Roomy, or press ⌘ Q.

Step 3: Move the app to the Trash

  1. Open Finder and click Applications in the sidebar.
  2. Drag Roomy to the Trash, or right-click it and choose Move to Trash.

Step 4: Remove Roomy's files (optional)

These hold your license token, Activity Log, settings and exclusions. Leave them if you might reinstall. To remove them:

  1. In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder… (⇧ ⌘ G).
  2. Paste one of the paths below and press Return.
  3. Move the selected file or folder to the Trash. Repeat for each path. If a path isn't found, there's nothing to remove.
  • ~/Library/Application Support/Roomy: your signed license token (license.json) and Activity Log (activity.json).
  • ~/Library/Preferences/com.roomymac.Roomy.plist: your settings and exclusions.
  • ~/Library/Caches/com.roomymac.Roomy: temporary cache files.

macOS may also have created these for Roomy, as it does for most apps. They're safe to delete too:

  • ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.roomymac.Roomy
  • ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.roomymac.Roomy.savedState

Prefer Terminal? defaults delete com.roomymac.Roomy clears the settings, including the copy macOS keeps in memory.

Step 5: Remove Roomy from privacy settings

  1. Open Apple menu → System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access.
  2. Select Roomy and click the − button, then confirm with your password or Touch ID.
  3. If you allowed access to your Downloads folder, Roomy is also listed under Privacy & Security → Files & Folders. You can turn its switch off. To reset every permission at once, run tccutil reset All com.roomymac.Roomy in Terminal.

Step 6: Empty the Trash

Right-click the Trash in the Dock and choose Empty Trash. Check that nothing else in the Trash is something you want to keep first.

Tips

  • Delete the downloaded .dmg file from your Downloads folder if it's still there.
  • Your license stays valid after uninstalling. Activate it on any Mac later with your key.
  • Password prompts you saw while cleaning came from macOS. Roomy installs nothing with administrator rights, so there's nothing in /Library to remove.

If that didn't work

  • "The item can't be moved to the Trash because it's open": Roomy is still running. Quit it, or open Activity Monitor, select Roomy and click the stop button.
  • Roomy still appears in Full Disk Access: remove it with −, or restart your Mac.
  • You still see charges: cancel in the billing portal or email [email protected].
