Cookie Policy
Last updated
This Cookie Policy explains the cookies the Roomy website uses, why we use them, and how you can change your choice at any time. It adds detail to our Privacy Policy.
The Roomy app for macOS doesn't use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. This policy is only about the website.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. They let the site remember things between pages and visits, such as keeping you signed in or remembering your cookie choice. Cookies set by the site you are visiting are "first-party" cookies; cookies set by another company's service on that site, such as Google, are "third-party" cookies. Some cookies last only until you close your browser ("session" cookies), and others stay for a set time ("persistent" cookies). Tags and similar technologies that work alongside cookies are covered by this policy too.
2. How we use cookies
We group our cookies into three categories:
- Essential. Needed for the website to work and to keep it secure: signing in, protecting forms, checkout and remembering your cookie choice. These are always on and don't need consent.
- Analytics. Google Analytics 4 helps us understand how visitors use the website, such as which pages are useful, so we can improve it.
- Marketing. Google Ads conversion tracking and our own
roomy_clickcookie tell us which ads lead to downloads, trials and purchases, so we spend our advertising budget on ads that work.
We don't use cookies to show you ads on our own site, and we don't sell cookie data.
3. Your choice depends on where you are
- In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics and marketing cookies are off until you agree to them in our cookie banner. If you decline, only essential cookies are used.
- Everywhere else, analytics and marketing cookies are on by default. You can turn them off at any time with Cookie settings. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to turn marketing cookies off for that browser.
4. The cookies we use
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|
roomy-session |
Roomy (first-party) | Keeps your session while you browse: signing in to your account, checkout and security checks. | 120 minutes after your last visit | Essential |
XSRF-TOKEN |
Roomy (first-party) | Protects forms, such as the sign-in form, against cross-site request forgery. | 120 minutes after your last visit | Essential |
roomy_consent |
Roomy (first-party) | Remembers your cookie choice so we don't ask on every visit. | 6 months | Essential |
roomy_click |
Roomy (first-party) | Remembers the Google Ads click ID (gclid, gbraid or wbraid) and campaign (UTM) tags from the ad you clicked, so a purchase you make later can be credited to that ad. Only set if you allow marketing cookies. |
90 days | Marketing |
_ga |
Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another with a random ID, to count visits and understand how the site is used. | 2 years | Analytics |
_ga_* |
Google Analytics | Keeps the state of your current visit (session) for Google Analytics 4. The full name includes our measurement ID. | 2 years | Analytics |
_gcl_au |
Google Ads | Used by Google's conversion linker to connect visits and purchases to ad clicks. | 90 days | Marketing |
_gcl_aw |
Google Ads | Stores the ad click ID when you arrive from a Google ad, so a later conversion can be credited to it. | 90 days | Marketing |
Google may set other cookies with similar names (starting with _ga or _gcl_) for the same purposes, and may use cookies on its own domains, for example if you are signed in to a Google account. Those cookies are controlled by Google's policies. Durations are maximums: a cookie may be removed sooner, for example when you clear your browser data, and some browsers shorten the life of cookies automatically.
When you check out, you leave our website for Stripe's secure checkout page. Stripe sets its own cookies there to process your payment and prevent fraud; those are covered by Stripe's privacy and cookie policies.
5. How to change your choice
Choose Cookie settings in the footer of any page on our website to see your current choice and switch analytics or marketing cookies on or off. Your new choice applies straight away and is saved in the roomy_consent cookie. Turning a category off stops new cookies in that category from being set and stops the related tags from running. To remove cookies that were already set, clear them in your browser, as described below.
If you clear your cookies, the website forgets your choice, and in the EEA, UK and Switzerland we will ask again on your next visit.
6. Browser controls
All modern browsers let you see, block and delete cookies, usually in their privacy settings. For example, in Safari on a Mac choose Safari → Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data, and in Google Chrome go to Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies or Delete browsing data. Blocking all cookies, including essential ones, may stop parts of the website, such as signing in, from working.
7. Google's advertising and analytics controls
- Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- Manage the ads Google shows you, and turn off ad personalization, in Google's ad settings.
- Stop Google Analytics on all websites with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
8. Changes to this policy
If we add, remove or change cookies, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change needs your consent, we will ask for it again.
