Large File Finder
Find large files on your Mac. Biggest first.
A few forgotten files often take more space than all your caches together. Roomy lists the biggest files in your home folder so you can decide what to keep.
Free scan No account needed macOS 14 Sonoma or later Apple silicon and Intel
Roomy is a paid app. The free version scans everything and cleans up to 500 MB.

What usually turns up
Large files are rarely junk in the cache sense. They are things you made or downloaded and then forgot. Seeing them in one sorted list makes the decision easy.
-
Disk images and installers
.dmg, .pkg and .iso files kept after the app was installed, often several gigabytes each.
-
Screen recordings and video exports
Recordings left on the Desktop and exports from video editors.
-
Archives
ZIP files you already unpacked, and old backups of project folders.
-
Virtual machines
Disk images for virtual machines you no longer run.
-
Audio projects
Podcast and music sessions with large raw recordings.
-
Old downloads
Anything downloaded once and forgotten, from datasets to game assets.
Everything you need to decide
Each file shows its name, the folder it is in, its kind, when it was last changed and its size. Double-click to open it, or reveal it in Finder.
- Where it looks
- Your whole home folder: Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Movies, Music, Pictures and any other folders you created there.
- What it skips
- Your Library folder, the Trash, hidden files, apps and packages like the Photos library, plus node_modules, Pods and DerivedData.
- Minimum size
- 50 MB, 100 MB, 250 MB, 500 MB or 1 GB. The default is 100 MB.
- What happens on removal
- Files move to the Trash, after a confirmation that lists each one. Put them back from Finder if needed.
How to find and delete large files on a Mac
-
Open Large Files
Click Large Files in the sidebar and start the scan. It walks your home folder and shows progress as it goes.
-
Sort and filter
The list is sorted by size. Raise the minimum size to focus on the biggest files, or sort by Modified to find the oldest.
-
Check before you choose
Double-click a file to open it, or right-click and choose Reveal in Finder. Choose Never Show Again for files you want to keep.
-
Move to Trash
Select files with ⌘-click or ⇧-click, click Move to Trash… and confirm. Empty the Trash to get the space back.
Large files or System Data?
If the Storage bar in System Settings shows a big Documents segment, large files are the likely cause, and this is the right tool. If the grey System Data segment is the problem, start with System Junk and Developer cleanup instead.
Not ready to delete a big video or archive? Move it to an external drive or to cloud storage first, then remove the local copy. To find files that exist twice, use the Duplicate File Finder.
Large file questions
How do I find large files on my Mac?
Open Roomy, click Large Files and start the scan. It lists every file in your home folder above the size you choose, biggest first, with its folder, kind and last modified date. You can sort by any column.
Does it delete anything automatically?
No. Nothing on this screen is selected for you, because every large file is something you made or downloaded. You choose files with ⌘-click or ⇧-click, then click Move to Trash and confirm.
Can I change the minimum size?
Yes. Choose 50 MB, 100 MB (the default), 250 MB, 500 MB or 1 GB. A higher limit gives a shorter list of the files that matter most.
Why isn’t my Photos library listed?
The Photos and Music libraries are packages, and the finder doesn’t look inside packages, so it can never damage a library. Manage photos and videos in the Photos app itself.
What about large files in the Library folder?
Your Library folder is skipped here because it holds app data rather than your own files. Large caches and developer data in it are covered by System Junk and Developer cleanup, with their safety ratings.
Can I hide a file I want to keep?
Yes. Right-click it and choose Never Show Again. It is added to your exclusions and skipped in every future scan.
