App Uninstaller
Uninstall apps on your Mac. Leftovers included.
Remove apps the complete way: the app, its caches, logs and the background helpers it installed. Your documents and the app’s settings stay unless you decide otherwise.
Free scan No account needed macOS 14 Sonoma or later Apple silicon and Intel
Roomy is a paid app. The free version scans everything and cleans up to 500 MB.

Remove app leftovers on your Mac, not your data
When you pick an app, Roomy looks for everything it left in your Library folder and splits it in two: junk that is useless without the app, and data you might want if you reinstall.
Removed with the app
-
Caches
~/Library/Caches/<bundle ID>Files the app saved to load faster.
-
Logs
~/Library/Logs/<bundle ID>Troubleshooting logs the app wrote.
-
Saved state
~/Library/Saved Application StateWhich windows the app had open.
-
Background helpers
~/Library/LaunchAgents, /Library/LaunchAgents, /Library/LaunchDaemons, /Library/PrivilegedHelperToolsLaunch agents, daemons and helper tools that run something inside the app or carry its bundle ID. Once the app is gone they fail at every login, so they go with it.
Kept unless you choose
Switch on Also remove app data & settings to include these. Leave it off if you might reinstall.
-
Application Support
~/Library/Application Support/<bundle ID>Databases, downloads and other data the app keeps.
-
Preferences
~/Library/Preferences/<bundle ID>.plistThe app’s settings, including per-Mac ByHost preferences.
-
Containers
~/Library/Containers, ~/Library/Group ContainersSandboxed apps keep their documents and settings here.
-
Web data and cookies
~/Library/HTTPStorages, ~/Library/WebKit, ~/Library/CookiesLogins and website data the app stored.
-
Application Scripts
~/Library/Application Scripts/<bundle ID>Scripts and extensions the app installed.
How to uninstall an app on a Mac completely
-
Open Apps
Click Apps in the sidebar. Filter by All, Unused, Large (500 MB or more), App Store or Other, and sort by size or last opened date.
-
Select the app
The panel on the right shows its size, when you last opened it and everything that would be removed with it.
-
Decide about app data
Untick any leftover you want to keep. Leave “Also remove app data & settings” off to keep documents, settings and logins in case you come back.
-
Click Uninstall
Apps that are open are asked to quit first and their background helpers are stopped. If the app was installed for all users, macOS asks for your password.
-
Empty the Trash when you’re sure
Everything moves to the Trash, so you can put it back. Emptying the Trash is what frees the space.
Careful matching
Only what belongs to that app.
Leftovers are matched by the app’s bundle ID, the unique name every Mac app has, such as org.videolan.vlc. Name-based matching is used only for distinctive names of four or more characters, and never for Apple’s apps, whose names are too generic.
A background helper counts as the app’s only if it runs a program inside the app or its label starts with the app’s bundle ID. Apps macOS protects, such as Safari, Finder and the App Store, aren’t listed at all.
Before anything moves, every path passes the same safety check as the rest of Roomy: it must be inside your home folder, Applications or a known helper folder, and can’t be a protected location like Keychains or iCloud Drive.
Find apps you no longer use
Most Macs collect apps that were installed for one project and never opened again. The Unused filter lists apps you haven’t opened in 90 days, using the last-opened date Spotlight records, and the Large filter shows apps of 500 MB or more. Sort by size to see which ones are worth removing first.
Uninstalling is the most reliable way to free up space on a Mac that is full of apps: games, video editors and design suites often take several gigabytes each, plus caches that grow on their own.
Want to remove Roomy itself? It doesn’t install background helpers. See how to uninstall Roomy.
Uninstaller questions
Does dragging an app to the Trash uninstall it?
It removes the app itself, but not the files it created in your Library folder: caches, logs, preferences, containers and background helpers. Those can stay for years, and helpers can keep trying to start at every login. Roomy finds them by the app’s bundle ID and removes them with the app.
Will I lose documents I made with the app?
No. Files you saved in Documents, Desktop or anywhere else in your folders are never part of an uninstall. App data the app keeps for itself, such as settings and logins, stays too unless you switch on “Also remove app data & settings”.
Can I uninstall several apps at once?
Yes. Select several apps with ⌘-click or ⇧-click and click Uninstall. Their caches, logs and helpers go with them, and the same app data switch applies to all of them.
Why does it sometimes ask for my password?
Apps installed by an installer package for all users, and their background daemons, belong to the system administrator. macOS shows its own password dialog to move them to the Trash. Roomy never sees or stores your password.
Can I undo an uninstall?
Yes, until you empty the Trash. The app and every leftover move to the Trash, so you can select them in Finder and choose Put Back. Background helpers start again after you log out and back in.
How does it decide an app is unused?
It reads the “last opened” date macOS’s Spotlight keeps for each app. Apps not opened in 90 days are marked Unused. Apps without a date are never marked, because a missing date often just means Spotlight didn’t record it.
